Movie Review: Breach

By PRyck
Back in 2001 the FBI busted one of there own named Robert Hanssen. Hanssen was with the FBI for 25 years and the majority of that time he was a spy for the Russians. Breach begins two months earlier with the character of Eric O'Niel, played by Ryan Phillippe. O'Niel was put on the assignment of being Robert Hanssen's (Chris Cooper) clerk for supposed new special information security department in the FBI. O'Niel was first led to believe he was investigating Hanssens's sexual acts spawning from past employee complaints.

In those two months Eric O'Niel began to befriend Hanssen. They were both Catholic and this is where the connection became strong between to two. Along came the character of Juliana O'Niel (Caroline Dhavernas), Eric's wife. The life of Eric had changed during this assignment and it wasn't for the good which created turmoil amongst the couple. O'Niel began to wonder exactly why he is put on this case against Hanssen. Like all wannabe agents he began asking questions and went to his boss named Kate Burroughs who is played by Laura Linney. Burroughs shows the true side of Hanssen to O'Niel, thus making O'Niel want to catch him even more.

Breach is a thriller and drama to every extent. It is a true story so everyone knows he would eventually be caught. What made me interested through the whole movie was how the FBI really did get the evidence that eventually lead Hanssen to be convicted and thrown in jail. Breach did a nice job at showing us what could be the inside of a huge FBI investigation and how a spy lives. For that I really liked and enjoyed this movie.

If you like a good thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next, pick up Breach. If your not the suspense type just move along.
