Movie Review: Ratatouille

By PRyck
Pixar keeps pumping out the CGI movies and in return makes a bunch of money off them. The next in line is Ratatouille, a movie about a rat, yes, a rat. Not only is it about a rat, this rat talks and is all about to cooking food! A weird concept and when its weird and outlandish like this, it peaks curiosity.

Ratatouille is about a rat named Remy (voiced by Patton Oswalt) who inst like any of the other rats in his clan. Remy has a heightened since of smell and with this allows him to pick ingredients out to make great food dishes. One day Remy was snooping around someones kitchen and was seen by a human. This leads to the finding of his clan's nest or home. In the frenzy that ensued Remy got split up from his clan and ended up in Paris France. The chef he idolizes, named Auguste Gusteau, has a world famous restaurant in Paris and Remy decides to snoop around there and watch real chefs create wonderful food.

This is where Remy meets the over the top clumsy, low self esteem, dumb character of Linguini. This character is the only reason that I have something to dislike about this movie. Linguini (Lou Romano) is way to dumb for me. But remember this is a kids movie so this character is here for the comedy. Linguini realizes that Remy is an excellent chef and asks for his help to keep his job. Soon the duo become the top chefs in Paris which puts their restaurant on the map and a target for the most harsh food critic alive, Anton Ego. Ego puts Linguini on the spot to create a dish for him to critique, which leads to the rest of the movie and a surprisingly nice outcome.

Ratatouille is a great film and very enjoyable. Like I said before, my only gripe is the character of Linguini and how dumb he is through the whole movie. Other than that I never knew I'd actually like a character that is a rat! Pixar does another great job on this kids movie, even adults will really enjoy this flick.
