Movie Review: The Brave One

By PRyck
Another revenge movie, much like Death Sentence except minus the cornyness and the person doing the revenge is a female. Jodie Foster is this female and she is laying down some serious hurt on the bad guys in The Brave One. I love revenge flicks and this one provides for a lot of entertainment.

On a lovely night, Erica Bain (Foster) and David Kimani (Naveen Andrews) are on a stroll in Central Park after a day of work. They are all a flutter discussing their up coming wedding and all the plans. Then their dog wonders off and the two haven't a clue where it could have gone. They eventually find the dog leashed up by some gang banger punks wanting a reward. David thanks them, but the guys start to push and shove and harass the couple. David fights back and the guys begin to beat on him and Erica, leaving them really messed up and David dead.

Erica survives and wakes up three weeks after the incident, missing her future husbands funeral. Having been brutally attacked, Erica is afraid to walk alone, to go to work, even being in her own apartment. Because of this she tries to by a gun and does, just not the legal way. She also meets Detective Mercer (Terrence Howard) and they strike up a friendship.

Now with this gun, Erica seems some what relieved and able to protect herself. One evening while in a mini market, a guy comes in shooting up the place. Erica ends up shooting and killing the guy. Once this has happened, Erica goes on a killing spree, and all her victims are criminals.

Detective Mercer begins to see a pattern with the killings and begins to slowly piece it together. All the while people are saying this new vigilante is doing the city good. All the way to the surprise twist, there are killings and some suspenseful scenes in this revenge flick.

The Brave One was a lot better then Death Sentence because the story was more down to earth and the bad guys seemed real and not fake as the case with Death Sentence. Jodie Foster does a great job as well as Terrence Howard like always. This is a good, entertaining movie for everyone and I would recommend it as a renter of a movie after a long week.
