Movie Review: There Will Be Blood
Set in the beginning of the 1900's, Daniel Plainview (Day-Lewis) is an oil prospector filled with greed and love of his family. He first struck oil in 1898, from then on he had nothing else in his mind but to get as many oil wells as possible. Also he wanted to have an oil pipe going to the pacific, which would bring him even more riches.
Along Daniel's journey to be the biggest oil prospector he comes across Eli Sunday. (Paul Dano) Eli is head of a church with a little following on his land. When Daniel comes in wanting to buy up the land he first must make a deal with Eli. They eventually come to a deal but by no means in a settling way. Daniel Plainview isn't a religious man at all, but Eli keeps insisting through out the movie.
Daniel strikes oil on the Sunday family's land and begins his dream of an oil pipeline. There is one hitch though. Back when first purchasing land, Daniel didn't get a vital piece that is close to the ocean. The only way to do this is be surcoming to the the church that Eli has created.
With a story filled with greed, family and religion, There Will Be Blood is rich with characters and plots. Daniel Day-Lewis does a wonderful job as Daniel Plainview. Paul Dano also did remarkably well as Eli. Even the music in this movie was great and sort of eerie to me. The only thing that bothered me was the length of this flick, coming in a two hours and forty minutes its pretty rough. Other than that, There Will Be Blood is one of the best of 2007 and deserves every nomination that it is getting.
