Movie Review: Resident Evil: Extinction

By PRyck
I have always had a love for zombie movies, the cornyness and gore in them always get me. The Resident Evil franchise has been just as I said before, corny and a bit gory. In Resident Evil: Extinction there is a whole lot of cornyness going on a maybe some gore here and there, which is sad because gore is what makes zombie movies.

Extinction is set a few years after Raccoon City catastrophe and the main character of Alice (Milla Jovovich) is wondering across the country. The story picks up with her in the Nevada dessert where she comes across a small band of survivors. Staying with these survivors they all agreed to make the trek up north to Alaska where they believe there are more survivors and the deadly T Virus has yet to spread.

While Alice and the survivors are savaging each town they come across the evil, Umbrella Corporation who is trying to find a vaccination to combat the T Virus. Dr. Isaacs (Iain Glen) is the one in charge and heading the research and begins to try and domesticate the zombies. By doing this Isaacs has limitless clones of Alice, who has the genes in her blood that can lead to a cure. The Umbrella Cooperation also has control over Alice via satellites which adds an interesting element to the story. Along the way Alice finally reaches Dr. Isaacs and wants revenge for everything that has happened to her. This leads to an epic final fight between Alice and the now infected Dr. Isaacs.

Resident Evil: Extinction lacks a point, the whole movie is about Alice who meets up with survivors on there way to Alaska. Alice then separates to fight Dr. Isaacs and thats it. There was nothing there that moved the story forward, and it ended, like what seems to be all movies now days, leading into another sequel. The acting was horrible but being that it is a zombie flick it really doesn't matter.

Extinction inst anything special, it has some good action scenes to please the eyes. If you can get past the acting and lack luster plot Resident Evil: Extinction is a decent movie to enjoy.
