Movie Review: Michael Clayton
Clooney plays Michael Clayton, a man who works for a huge law firm, but really isn't a lawyer. He is considered a "fixer" or a person who does damage control. Right there is where this movie had me. A mysterious character such as Clayton always makes things interesting. As the movie went on we find out many things about Micheal, his personal life, his failed business and most of all, what he actually does for the law firm.
Michael is tired with what he does at this point in time. He believes that he is worthless at the firm and that theres no good future for him. With a divorce and a failed business venture, he is stuck at the firm and really cant do anything about it. Just do what he does best, that is fix things.
The huge firm that Clayton works for has been on a case defending a huge company by the name of U North. A class action law suit has been filed against this company and if they were to lose they would have to pay out three billion dollars. The head lawyer on the case is Arthur Edens. (Tom Wilkinson) He ends up going insane because he knows the truth behind it all.
This is where Michael comes in to fix the problem of Arthur, so the firm doesn't lose the case and a whole lot of money. Through it all there is a death and an attempt at taking out Clayton. Micheal soon figures it all out and ends up taking someone down in the process.
Michael Clayton is a great movie that makes you think. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, wanting to know more, wanting to see how everything will play out. In the end I was satisfied, especially with the ending. It seemed to tie everything together really well and made the audience sit there thinking over the whole story. George Clooney did a great job as usual, but my only problem with this flick is that it was slow in some parts. Other than that, this movie is great for those of us who want to think hard.
