Movie Review: National Treasure: Book of Secrets

By PRyck
The second installment of this adventure story, National Treasure: Book of Secrets did what most sequels fail at. This movie was actually good! Nicholas Cage comes back for this surprisingly good second movie with a whole lot more action.

In Book of Secrets Benjamen Gates (Cage) is presented with the theory that his great great grandfather was one of the people who assassinated President Lincoln. Both Ben Gates and his father, Patrick Gates (Voight), can not stand knowing that their ancestor really did help kill the President who made the U.S. whole again after the civil war. With this theory, Ben sets out again with his last partners, Riley Poole (Justin Bartha) and Abigail Chase (Diane Kruger). Armed only with a couple clues the team sets out to prove this theory wrong.

The person who brought forth this theory about Gates is Mitch Wilkinson who is played by Ed Harris. It so happens that Wilkinson's great grand daddy was on the losing Confederate side and was against the new union. Wilkinson was much like the other bad guys in the first National Treasure, he followed Ben Gates around and ended up going with the Gates family to search for the lost "City of Gold."

Through the movie the clues Gates found led us to France, England and of course America. There were the token car chases that were really exciting and the kidnapping of the President that provided some humor in the movie. Ultimately all clues led to Gates and his posse as well as the bad guy Wilkinson to Mt. Rushmore where the "golden city" lies beneath the rocks. Will this be the evidence that clears the Gates name?

National Treasure: Book of Secrets was a very action packed movie. The only complaint would be that is was rather long. Yes, there were the occasional corny lines and some stupid scenes, but overall this movie was surprising good for a sequel. There were a lot more action scenes then the first movie with some really good clues and puzzles. In the end National Treasure: Book of Secrets is a very entertaining movie. Wonder whats on page 47, I'm sure we will find out.
