Movie Review: Juno
There has been some serious hype surrounding Juno, myself included have been hyping this offbeat movie. It has been in limited release since it debuted (December 25) and finally got to making it to Reno. Another reason why I wanted to see this was because of Michael Cera, he was hilarious in in Superbad and wasnt to bad in this flick.
Juno is about a girl named Juno (Ellen Page) and how she became pregnant at the ripe old age of 16. Her best friend is Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera) and one night the two were bored so the only thing left to do was bump nasties. This leads to Juno becoming pregnant and for the next nine months an up and down ride follows.
Juno was going to get an abortion, but when signing up for one her mind had changed. With her friend Leah by her side, the two got the idea to find the perfect couple to adopt the baby. This leads to Mark and Vanessa Loring, played by Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner. When Juno meets the future parents immediately you know that Vanessa is the controlling one and poor Mark really hasn't lived his life to the fullest yet.
Towards the end of the pregnancy, Juno and Paulie are on the fritz as well as Mark and Vanessa, threatening to make the adoption fail, Juno doesn't know what to make of it all. As the movie comes to an end there is a pleasant ending on both fronts that wraps up this movie very nicely.
There has been word that this movie is the next Little Miss Sunshine. I LOVED Little Miss Sunshine so naturally I hyped Juno up with the already hype there was for it. Juno was a great movie, don't get me wrong, but to me it didn't live up to the hype. Yes it was quirky and funny with some of the best acting in any movie of '07. In the end I left the theater depressed, where as for Little Miss Sunshine I was happy and upbeat. Juno was a good film though, just didn't "get me" like I thought it would. Oh and the soundtrack drove me insane (Listen to the trailer then multiply that by an hour and a half.), a true "teeny bopper" movie.
