Movie Review: Fracture

By PRyck
Yet another thriller I had to watch and it included something about law. Any movie with Anthony Hopkins in it must be pretty good so I had to check it out. Fracture is directed by Gregory Hoblit and was done rather nicely. The eerie music and intro was well done also, which grabbed me as soon as it started.

Fracture is about two characters by the name of Ted Crawford (Hopkins) and Willy Beachum (Ryan Gosling) basically "dueling" each other with their wits and trying to out smart each other in the practice of law. Beachum is a hot shot DA lawyer who has an impressive winning streak. With his skills as a DA Beachum was asked to work for a big firm. Because of this new job possibility it causes Beachum to not think correctly for the case. Ted Crawford is a wealthy super smart man who has figured out that his with, Jennifer Crawford (Daviditz), is cheating on him with another man. He creates a scenario where he kills or attempts to kill his wife and when the police come Ted confesses to what he has done. But the twist is there is no evidence against Ted Crawford.

Beachum decides to take this one last case before the big jump to the new firm. What he didn't know is there was really no evidence against Ted. There was supposedly no murder weapon or anything against Mr. Crawford. Because of Beachum's ego he had to figure out the truth and put Ted Crawford behind bars. If he wasn't able to do this, he would lose the job at the firm and wouldn't be able to return as a DA.

Fracture started out really well. As I was watching it I thought this movie was going to be really really good. The storyline is a great concept and really had me thinking. After the half way mark the movie began to be drawn out. There were portions that needn't be there, which made the ending half of Fracture boring to me. A good thriller but a bit boring to be a good movie as I thought it would be with the first half.
