Movie Review: No Country for Old Men
Set in 1980, a retired Vietnam veteran, Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin), is out on the plains hunting when he comes across a bunch of bodies. He investigates and finds out it is a drug deal gone bad. He ends up tracking the last survivor, where Llewelyn ends up finding him dead. With this dead body is a suitcase filled with two million dollars. Like any normal human, Llewelyn takes it for himself.
All the while there is this character named Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem), who is a pyschopathic killer out to find this money. His weapons of choice are, a cattle gun and a silenced shotgun. That right there mixed with his emotionless killings, makes Chigurh one of the coolest villains ever in a movie. He is hired by a group of Americans to find the money and return it. Chigurh ends up killing them and many more people.
There are already two amazing characters in this movie, but there is one more. A character that many people will think (I included the first time I saw this movie), to be rather pointless and really not needed. The character is an aging sheriff by the name of, Ed Tom Bell, who is played by Tommy Lee Jones. Through out the movie he has his insights, but his dialog is what makes this character tie the story all together.
No Country for Old Men is easily one of the best of 2007, and is my favorite of the year. The Coen brothers made a movie that inst like the run of the mill Hollywood flick. There is a scene where Chigurh is talking to a mini mart worker, (in the trailer below) which will leave you squirming, absolutely great. The story is incredible, the action is incredible, the whole thing is an awesome well made movie. We all will see come Oscar time. You will either love this movie or hate it, but give it a chance, and for sure watch it twice. No Country for Old Men deserves every bit of this score it is getting and Javier Bardem deserves the Oscar.
