Movie Review: The Comebacks

By PRyck
Like all spoof movies they try hard to be funny and fall short on everything else, even being funny. The Comebacks is like that, but with maybe two or three laughs in there. With all these spoof flicks coming out ever since the first Scary Movie, this "genre" is dying quick. The only true spoof movie will always and forever be Airplane.

The story is about Lambeau Fields (David Koechner) who is a coach that always fails and never wins at anything he does. He coached everything from football to Nascars and was able to be the worst coach at all. A job opportunity came to him and he decided to take it. That job would be to couch a small town football team by the name of "The Comebacks."

This team has a variety of players each a different character from some sports film in the past. For instance, the team needed a kicker, so they ended up getting a smoking hot indian gal from the soccer team, ah la Bend It Like Beckham. Another character spoof was of Radio from the movie Radio, but in this movie the character was named "iPod," which gave a chuckle. Other than that all other attempts fell short at remotely being funny.

Back to the story, Coach Fields now has a team that is actually winning and going on to the championship game. This game, named "The Toilet Bowl," another attempt at laughs, is a farce of The Longest Yard. Now Fields has the opportunity of actually winning for once. Does he succeed or does he truly become the loser he has always been?

The Comebacks is in no way a good movie. This movie was thrown together to make a quick buck for the studios. It is another spoof flick that is killing spoof flicks. And a possibility of a sequel? It is getting out of hand. The Comebacks provided a small number of laughs, nothing to warrant this movie even as a renter. Your missing nothing here, move along please.
