Movie Review: The Invasion
In The Invasion we follow the character of Carol Bennell, played by Nicole Kidman. The space shuttle has just exploded upon re entry and carrying with it is an alien type virus that infects people and takes over their body. As the virus slowly spreads Carol Bennell is noticing people change, mainly in the men. The symptoms are no emotion and no fear, all the infected do are act like robots.
Coral Bennell's ex husband, Tucker Kaufman is a big whig in the government and when examining the debris of the space shuttle he cuts himself, thus becoming infected. By now most of the head people in the government have been infected as well. Because of this the government begins to administer a "vaccination" which really is the infection, to try and create a utopian type world. Another way, which I found comical, is that an infected person would hold down another and begin to puke on them. After seeing that I really couldn't take this movie to seriously.
With all of this taking place Carol Bennell has also been infected, but the only way to become "like them" is to fall asleep. Bennell's son, Oliver, is taken hostage by his dad Kaufman because Oliver has fallen asleep and hasn't been infected, therefore he is immune and is the answer to a cure. Bennell with the help of her friend Ben Driscoll (Daniel Craig) set out to get the boy and bring him to safety and hopefully doctors will be able to use Oliver to create a vaccination.
Besides the projectile puke infecting people, there was a lot missing from The Invasion. All through out the movie I felt it was missing something, I was never really grabbed by anything. This is another example of a movie where Daniel Craig wasn't in it very much. He is a good actor, use him! Over all a sub-par movie that does very little of anything.
4/10
