Movie Review: The Golden Compass
The Golden Compass is, like I said before, a fantasy, so there are talking animals and flying witches and things of that nature. The concept is rather fascinating with parallel universes and different animal kingdoms. Not like the animal kingdoms we know today, but literally, theres a polar bear king! Which leads me to the best part of the movie which involves the character Lorek Byrnison (Ian McKellen), fighting the king of the polar bears who wrongfully took the kingdom away from him.
Other than that the movie was horrible. Nicole Kidman did a good job as the "bad girl" Marisa Coulter. As for Daniel Craig, he, maybe, had about ten minutes of air time in the whole movie. One of the reasons I wanted to see this movie so badly was to see how the new James Bond did, for those 10 minutes Craig was in the movie, he did fine.
The Golden Compass was a disappointment, it was confusing and seemed to compress so much detail in to a short amount of time. As of right now, a day later, I am still confused about what happened in the two hours I sat there watching. It ended just how it began, confusing. Oh and theres a sequel coming as well! Great.
The only good thing was the awesome polar bear brawl, other than that this movie was a huge let down just like Fred Claus. No need to waste the money at the theaters on this one, maybe not even a renter. Move along.
