Movie Review: Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
Walk Hard is the story of Dewey Cox (John C. Reilly), a southern farm kid who was always looked down on by his father. One day him and his older brother were having a good time messing around when they begin to have a fake masheti fight. The sheath on Dewey's masheti falls off and he ends up cutting his brother in half. His brother's top half is up right next his legs and is still able to talk. Here he tells Dewey to become double great for both of them.
That incident haunts Dewey Cox for the rest of his life and also the ghost of his brother always comes back to have a talk with him. From here Dewey picks up a guitar and naturally becomes a great blues player. At the age of 15 Dewey gets married and has a kid....and keeps having them. I told you this movie was over the top and this is just one reason why. While having a fight with his wife Dewey coins the phrase "Walk Hard" which catapults him to super stardom and his search for his master piece.
With all this fame comes the drugs, parties and of course the women. Through out his life Dewey became addicted to every drug known to man and went to rehab each time. He got married three times having twenty two kids in all and thirteen grandchildren. Through all these ups and downs was the spoofing of certain rock legends such as the Beatles and their acid trips, to a crazy Elvis and Bob Dylans songs no one understands. With all this success Dewey never got his fathers approval and ended up, like with his brother, having a masheti fight leaving his dad in half and dieing.
Dewey decides to take some time off and be with his huge family. After a couple of decades of being a family man, he finally creates his master piece and is invited for a life time achievement award where it is played by him at the age of 72. Dewey Cox dies three minutes after the song ends, going down as a legend.
All Apatow movies have some ridiculous over the top stuff in them with the bad language and nudity, but nothing compares to Walk hard. The makers found a way to create a movie that out does all movies thus far, with showing a penis. Yes, in this movie there isn't just one scene with a mans genitals, but two. This made the theater instantly awkward and hilarity comes as well.
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is made to be stupid, awkward, dumb and over all funny. It is every one of those words and easily more. When preparing to watch this flick prepare to watch the dumbest movie since Borat, but also prepare for some of the funniest stuff in a movie since Borat.
